Juvenile Defense for Clients across Texas

When a son, daughter, or youth in your life is charged with a crime, it is essential to have an experienced juvenile defense attorney to protect the rights of the child or young adult. Ed Mason is a veteran Dallas juvenile lawyer with experience in juvenile court trials, sentencing, expunction and other aspects of this area of the law.

Ed Mason, Attorney at Law has represented minors in all types of criminal charges, from underage drinking to serious offenses such as rape and murder. We also represent adults charged with crimes, and handle appeals of criminal convictions. Our firm represents juveniles in Collin County, Dallas County, Tarrant County, Denton County and the greater Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas area, as well as clients throughout the state.

Mr. Mason  has practiced criminal law since 1969, and defended clients as a private criminal defense attorney for nearly 30 years. He is certified as a criminal law specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. An experienced trial lawyer, he has represented clients at trial in state and federal courts throughout Texas, as well as representing clients on appeal in the 5th Circuit, 11th Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court.

Juvenile Law
In Texas, children and youths under 18 years of age are adjudicated as “persons in need of supervision” and sentencing can vary widely. If convicted they may be sentenced to probation or handed over to the Texas Youth Council for three or four years of “training.” Certain crimes, such as murder, allow a person under age 17 to be certified as an adult for trial. Also, juvenile convictions for violent crimes frequently allow the defendant to be resentenced at their 21st birthday. It is imperative to have quality legal representation to prevent or minimize continued incarceration for serious crimes, and to ensure that the minor’s rights are upheld at every stage of the juvenile justice process.

We represent juveniles charged with any type of crime, including:

  • DWI and other traffic-related and alcohol-related offenses
  • possession of marijuana, cocaine, meth, “ecstasy” or other drugs
  • assault and battery, and domestic assault
  • theft and burglary
  • arson
  • armed robbery and weapons crimes
  • sexual assault, including rape and date rape
  • gang-related crimes
  • homicide (including capital murder)

We work with the parents to determine the objectives of the defense. Most parents want their child to be able to finish their education and resume a normal life (if under court supervision). At the firm of Ed Mason, Attorney at Law, we wish the same for our clients, and provide a vigorous defense to protect their rights and salvage their futures.

We also handle expunction of juvenile records. Juvenile records are sealed to the public, but they are accessible to law enforcement agencies investigating subsequent criminal charges. Two years after the juvenile has served the sentence, we can assist in petitioning to have the records expunged if there have been no other convictions.

Contact a Texas juvenile defense attorney for a free initial consultation about your child’s defense. We can attempt to work out a deal that avoids criminal conviction, plead to lesser charges or aggressively represent the minor at trial. We have a Spanish translator on staff (servicios del intérprete disponibles), we accept Visa and MasterCard, and we can meet evenings or weekends.
