Ed MasonAttorney at Law

Appeals

Texas Appellate Lawyer

5th Circuit • 11th Circuit • Supreme Court

In representing clients on appeal, the defendant’s legal counsel attempts to show that the trial court erred in the original criminal conviction. Texas appellate lawyer Ed Mason has extensive experience in appeals of convictions. Practicing exclusively in criminal law, he aggressively pursues justice for people in the most vulnerable position – sentenced unfairly to jail or prison.

Ed Mason, Attorney at Law is a Dallas-based law practice, serving clients throughout the state of Texas, as well as Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Missouri, in criminal defense and appeals. Mr. Mason is board-certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a designation earned through years of practice, significant trial experience and passing a comprehensive exam. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. 5th Circuit and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.

Former Appellate Prosecutor
Before starting his own law firm in 1976, Mr. Mason served as a state prosecutor for seven years, chiefly in the Appellate Division. This experience is a major advantage to his criminal defense clients on appeal -- he honed his persuasive skills writing large numbers of briefs for the state and understands how district attorneys prepare their prosecution case.

Client-Focused Representation
Many clients seek a new defense lawyer to handle their appeal after a conviction. At Ed Mason, Attorney at Law, we attend to our clients, put forth the best defense under the circumstances, and explain the appeals process even before a conviction. As a result, most clients whom we represented at trial retain our services on appeal.

On appeal, we are trying to convince the appeals court that a fair trial was prevented by the court’s error in admission or omission of key evidence, improper jury instructions, prosecutorial misconduct, incompetent legal representation, or other bias against our client. Dallas Court of Appeals attorney Ed Mason is thoroughly prepared and fast on his feet in presenting arguments to the appellate court.

If you believe your previous trial lawyer, the prosecutor or the judge prevented you or a loved one from getting a fair trial, contact Texas Appeals Attorney Ed Mason to arrange a free initial consultation about appealing the conviction. We can meet evenings and weekends by appointment, and legal assistant Stella Alviso can translate Spanish for those not fluent in English. (Servicios del intérprete disponibles.)
